Way too much fun. Wish there was dancing....fortunately there was dancing at "Columbus 72"....took potential crew there for some after "meet up" fun. By the way, dancing is boating on land.......on a boat the floor is moving and I am attempting to appear up-right....on a dance floor the floor is steady and I am attempting to appear anything but up-right.....the difference is the beat and the rhythem. Cadence vs sea state.

My backyard is available for hosting a sailing meet up gathering but it is weather dependent. When it gets warmer outside...I have a generous sized garden and big kitchen of a Brooklyn Brownstone in Park Slope. I host get togethers often and would be happy to host a sailing event...perhaps this venue would be good for knot tying...we can also project slides outside. Liz Asch [masked]

Peter Dodenhoff on Oct 27, 2006.

  • The Gotham City Sailing Association

The group is a good idea. I'd suggest taking over a bar somewhere... would be easier to talk. I would also suggest name tags that are one color for boat captains and another for those looking to be crew. This group has potential.

  • The Gotham City Sailing Association

I still think skippers/boat owners ought to wear funny hats-- it's the price of getting a free drink off of me! :) (Okay... maybe just name tags would do the job.)

  • The Gotham City Sailing Association

GCSA meetups provide an opportunity for crew and skippers to make a connection. There's nothing better than face to face contact to put a skipper's mind at ease when inviting someone new out for a sail.

  • The Gotham City Sailing Association

I had a wonderful time talking with people who had and didn't have boats. The sailing world is so "fragmented" with many potential crew and as well as owners not having much contact with others who are interested in sailing. This is a good way to meet others interested in Sailing. I was given contact information by a couple of people who were interested in learning to sail. I have attempted to contact them without any response. Don't know why. Will use the email feature next time.
