Hi Gang! Although it's been awhile, it's time to get together and schedule this year's events and classes and I need your input! John and I have been busy acquiring a boat in Mexico (as some of you know..with a special thanks to Chris Carpenteri for the heave-to and know-how) and meeting with groups like SEAS to pull together resources for the upcoming months. Although Fall and Winter are generally off-season to boaters, it's a perfect time to get together for classes, lectures and presentations. But in order schedule events that you want to attend, I have to hear from you. If you've yet to attended a sailing meetup, this is the one. Join us as we discuss lecture ideas and venues, sailing courses, outings, a even a holiday shindig. Didn't get out on a boat this summer? The best way to actually go sailing is to meet sailors at one of the meetups. As always no experience necessary- just bring your enthusiasm. See you at Clancy's!

Is it just me or is the weather hot enough to motivate just about everyone to seek a cool drink on the waterfront? So lets meet up at the Frying Pan- a retired light ship that serves as a symbol for nautical resilience and swashbuckler mischief. Built in 1929, the Frying Pan sunk in the Chesapeake Bay and remained there for 3 years before being salvaged and brought to Chelsea Piers. It is now one of 13 lightships remaining and still maintains the barnacles and tell-tale signs of her near-demise (Check out the website to see it sink! http://www.fryingpan .com/). We have a slew of new members to greet and summer events to announce so RSVP now and we'll see you at Pier 63!

City Island Yacht Club has graciously opened their club to us for a Basic Sailing Trim Class (offered by Sailing meetup member and long-time sailor/racer/instruc tor Chris Carpenteri) as well as an introduction to racing by one of the Yacht Club board members. This is an amazing opportunity to learn from a pro and get the 411 on racing, which is by far, the best way to learn how to sail safely and effectively in all weather conditions. As always, previous experience is unnecessary...just bring your enthusiasm and we'll take care of the rest. Food and beverages are available and encouraged! Don't miss out on the hospitality! RSVP so that we can get the necessary education materials together. Check out the City Island Yacht Club website at http://www.cityislan dyc.org/index.htm and click on the directions tab. I will post subway and bus directions later this week for you Manhattan- and Bouroughites. See you on City Island!

Location added! Let's get back together! To give you enough time to put it on your calendar, If you've joined us before, we'd love to see the familiar faces. If you are new to the group, be sure to make an effort to drop by and meet the folks you could be sailing with! Your opportunities to sail multiply exponentially when skippers get to know you, regardless of your experience. So watch your inbox for the location update this week and we'll see you on the 8th. Foward-ho! (Who you calling a ho?) Tara

Hi Gang! Thanks so much for all your encouraging emails! For those of you that may have just joined, we had a bit of a lull of events due to a family emergency but since all is well, lets get to sailing! Memorial Day is coming up and it looks like it's going to be a great weekend to on the water. Several people are headed to City Island but I'm sure there are several skippers in other marinas that are planning on heading out as well. So, if you are interested in an overnight trip or prefer just to sail for the day, respond to this event and let others know. Skippers, please indicate where you are, how many you can take aboard and how long you plan on being out. SIDE NOTE...Although many of you have taken the time to complete the profile and risked looking silly in the picture (oh wait, maybe that's just MY issue)..if you have not already done so, please add a picture and complete the profile. It can be awkward for skippers and uncomfortable bringing someone aboard if they don't have a face to add to the name, let alone qualifications (even if you have none!). As always, if you have any questions or concerns, contact me directly. See ya on the heel! Best, Tara "The odds of getting what you want greatly increases when you ask for it"

If you were unable to attend Tuesday's meetup, we made announcements for the 11th Annual Sailors Ball and provided invitations. Many thanks to meetup member Robin for alerting us to this event! The black-tie celebration takes place in two weeks on Friday, April 28th at the Downtown Association which gives you just enough time to clear your schedule and find something to wear. Tickets are $85 if purchased before April 25th and $100 at the door if available. This is an INCREDIBLE deal for a formal event in NYC and it is not an event to miss! Come join us as we dance and drink the night away looking fabulous. And as always, this is for sailors which mean you'll meet great people with common interests and passions! You can purchase tickets at www.nyharborsailing. com or call the North Cove at 212-786-1200. Don't miss out on this one! P.S. Gals- Several of us are getting together to attend this event. If you want to meet up, email me directly and we'll plan a pre-party shindig. Guys- See above. This means there will be plenty of great-looking, active women and you will be irresistible wearing a tux. Get it?

For all of you that showed an interest in a sailing class at the last get-together (Ship of Fools) and for those who were unable to make it, John (the other assistant organizer) has graciously offered up his patio (in Manhattan?!) and his expertise for a beginning sailor's class to get newcomers ship shape for the season. The class will provide an introduction to sailing and the tips you need to feel more comfortable on board and avoid embarrassing yourself by using words like "rope" for lines and "bathroom" for the head (they keel-haul folks for that in some regions!) Whether you're new to the ocean or just need a refresher course, the class will be informative and fun. Please email John and I (Tara) directly to confirm your attendance by next Wednesday April 27th so we know how many packets to create. This class is free but I'm sure a host donation (beverages, snacks, a large gift certificate to West Marine) wouldn't hurt. If you are an experienced sailor and would like to offer a class on or off the water in your area I’d love to hear from you! See you on Thursday!

If you were unable to join us at our last get together, this is your chance to meet the group. "Ship of Fools" is located on the Upper East Side and has great drink specials. It's more casual than swanky so wear your dock shoes (unlike, but just as cool as my groovy light up shoes!!) and get ready to meet people who like you..just want the winter to end and the sailing season to commence! See you there!

Hi Gang- Its that time of year when the weather turns just a tad warmer to remind us that Spring is just around the corner! And we all know what that means...so let's get together and meet some of the new members (like me!) while basking in the sunshine of the ol' timers that will show us how it's done. Radio Perfecto is a great bar with a happy hour in the East recommended by Leslie (many thanks!) As always, if you can't make it but would like a get-together in your neck of the woods, email me and I'll make it happen. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. Be well and I’ll see you there. Tara
