SAVE THE DATE! Tuesday July 21 GCSA Meetup.

As soon as we get an idea of how many people will attend, Tara will post the location (probably in midtown) and the details. Is anyone up for a little friendly competition?

Also, any boat owners interested in a raft up should contact me with their available dates and perhaps we can organize something. In the meantime, please use the message board if you are looking for crew or other boats to raft up--it gets lonely if you don't use it :-).

Hope to see you there!

Ahoy all Boat owners and potential crew! Announcing the GCSA TEAM LAUNCH COMPETITION. If you need help getting your boat ready for the season and if you joined this group to go sailing, this is the Meetup to attend. GCSA is hosting a Launch party for all boat owners and potential crew!

On May 13th, we will create Launch teams of 2+members (plus the boat owner). Each team leader (boat owner) will pick the date of the event, coordinate transport and provide the boat.

Boat owners- For the Meetup, prepare a signup form for dates (and possible rain dates) that you plan on doing work on your boat to get it ready to “splash”. Since this should be a work-party, plan on providing tunes, beverages and the atmosphere to make this fun! Have ready directions and possible tasks that are not dependent on experience. All boat owners who attend and participate in this event will get a GCSA T-shirt for $5.

Potential Crew- Bring your enthusiasm to this Meetup! There is proven evidence that members who offer to clean and provide a little elbow grease to a boat owner’s first love (his or her boat) WILL SAIL THIS SUMMER (and likely for as long as the boat owner lives). I can personally attest to this- I offered John, your assistant organizer, a summer day and some beer to get his boat ready to splash and ended up with a bonified *marriage proposal (which I accepted, thank you!) Disclaimer-*GCSA does not guarantee the same results to all members. Your results may vary. The beer helped.

Suggested items to bring to your on-site Launch party are – beverages of BBQ treats of choice, Sunblock, party tunes, workout gloves and comfortable boat attire that can be destroyed.

Post event, participating GCSA members will anonymously vote for the best boat owner, crew member and cleanest boat to win prizes at our next Meetup in June.

You asked for it and we’re giving it to you. Make your boat shine, meet new crew, and show your appreciation to the boat owners who make this group amazing!

Let the games begin!

As promised, I've found a venue that is willing to have all 150+ swashbucklers! If you haven't already done so, please RSVP so that I can provide the appropriate amount of staff.

Look for GCSA leaders in Red or White t-shirts with our freshly coined new logo! T-shirts will be available for sale in both women and men-fitted styles- this will help to increase the visibility of our group and act as a fundraiser.

While it is GREATLY PREFERRED that your $10 membership fee (for the season) be paid on-line (via your GCSA profile) you will have an opportunity to pay cash (only) at the door. If you are new to the group, the fee is NOT required to attend this kickoff! But I guarantee, but the end of the night, you'll be hooked!

For those who are providing a table presentation- please be at the Irish Rogue no later than 6 pm for set up. I will send a confirmation email on Saturday.

Can't wait to see all of you!!!

Tara

Captains/Boat Owners- We have 10 free tickets on the Circle line cruise to the Waterfalls at 7:30 pm. This is one of the ways we can thank you for taking out crew and teaching them the "ropes". If you have taken a GCSA member out to sail with you and you are the first of ten to email me- the ticket is yours (please, one ticket per boat)

For more info about the Waterfall Cruise please see
Circle Cruise Line- Waterfall

Everyone- join us as we honor the folks who have taken time and effort to extend their on-the-sea home to the GCSA members. If you would like to join us on the "Waterfall Cruise", tickets are $10. After the cruise, we will be getting together for a social at the South Street seaport (exact location to be determined when I have a head count of attendees.)

Can't make the cruise? No problem- meet us at the South Street seaport at 8:15 to spin a yarn or two (or three).

Stay tuned for more info.

Thanks for your patience regarding the venue for this event. I met with the manager at the Press Box and this is going to be a great place to meetup!!! When the weather isn't threatening thundershowers, we'll get together at an "outdoor" place.

Drink specials will be offered for the first two hours and we'll be doing a 50/50 raffle!!!

It's been too long since our last get-together!

This event is scheduled for a Friday which can make it difficult to find a venue that will hold over 150 people, but is easier for most people's schedules. While I have a few places in mind, if you have any suggestions, please let me know ASAP so that I can confirm the details.

In addition to our regular announcements, I am looking for official "Assistant Organizers" who can help host events (in local or private settings), plan lectures, and or organize water events. If any of this sounds good to you (and I can attest that I have loved doing it), please email me directly with your contact info and realistic availability.

See you again soon!!
