Introduction
Hi, I've been sailing since I was 12 or 13. I have a schooner, which I sail often. I've made several ocean passages, and enjoy fun daysails and cruising most. I really like sailing, and enjoy meeting other people who like sailing.
Are you interested in racing and if so, what type of experience do you have? Willing to learn?

Not very. I've raced in sheltered water (Long Island Sound, NY Harbor, Georgian Bay) quite a bit, on different boats, but I'm really more interested in sailing for fun, and sailing to go places, than I am in racing around buoys.

Are you looking for crew? Are you willing to crew?

Often I am looking for crew, more often in the winter, but also in other seasons. At the moment (June 2008), I am looking for crew for ocean passages.

How much sailing have you done? What type of sailing would you like to do this season?

I have done a lot of sailing. Having spent many years in the arctic, and having learned how to stay warm outside, I don't agree with the concept of a "sailing season" in mild climates like New York, so I sail year-round :-).

Do you own a boat? If so, what kind, and where is it docked? If not, do you rent, charter, or use a sailing club?

I have a classic, 40 foot, gaff-rigged, steel schooner in New York, which I am trying to sell. I have a 52' steel staysail schooner which I bought in France and am slowly sailing to North America (currrent location Canary Islands).

What sailing courses have you taken? What certifications do you hold?

USCG "six-pack" license. I formerly taught sailing for the New York Community Sailing Association, and I teach various classes for this group.

  •  Tara doesn't respond to emails so I thought I'd ask you. What is the email address for this meetup? I'm trying to find out if anyone is sailing this wk-end but there is no email address listed like in other meetups. Thanks!

  •  Hi-
Just a reminder - I'm interested in doing some sailing this summer. Have you splashed your boat yet? I'd love to get out on the water. I'll happily supply the sandwiches! Let me know, OK? Thanks - Emily

  •  Hi-
If you are ever interested in having somebody join you for a recreational sail, please keep me in mind. I love being on the water, I am a comfortable sailor, and I'll happily supply the sandwiches and refreshments! I can be available during the day during the week, and also on weekends.

  •  You ought to check out the people going up to Alaska as far as boating. It is awesome! All the killers whales and such coming close to the boats. Its awesome to look at. You ought to check it out as far as going up there. Once you take a trip up there you will never be the same.

  •  Captain Richard is a excellent sailor,A+ instructor . He is an "A" list as a captain for meetup members to sail with. I have a lot of fun and learn something new everytime I sail with him.
