Alas, the sailing season ends in Northport, (the Launch Service secures month end . . .), so once again, time to haul out "Genesis" (a Hunter 240 Compact Cruiser) from her home port waters to her winter berth by my home. . . and host a Halloween Haul Out BBQ!
Saturday Morning, 31 October Halloween!: Here's another opportunity to earn an outing/berth aboard "Genesis" next season, and become a valued "Shipmate" now. Come volunteer and learn about all the things behind the scenes of yacht ownership (and WIN PRIZES!): At the Dock: Trailer use and towing techniques, boat ramp etiquette and safety, dock work, unstepping and derigging a mast with a gin-pole, (how foul waterballast water can be), winterizing a boat's fluids, systems, tanks, battery banks and engine . . . et. al. . . Back at the House: We will be stripping out all perishables and beverages, and serving them up / cooking up a storm for the crew as they powerwash the hull, polish and winter wax the deck and topsides, flake out the sails for long term storage, disinfect all the PFDs & watertoys that went swimming over the season, wash all lines/sheets, reverse if indicated, etc., clean, inspect and service anchor rodes and emergency gear, etc. We disinfect and mold-block control everything to keep things fresh and wholesome to begin next season. PLUS, we will be erecting a new "Boat Port" to totally enclose the boat with working room under canopy. No experience needed, just willingness and a great attitude. However, we can use mechanical / electrical skills, cleaning fanatics, photo-joes, grill miesters, go-fers, extra-crew always welcomed. Bring your cleaning duds, powerwasher, auto-polisher/buffer, and elbow grease. 1) Two Meet-Up Options: a) 09:00 - meeting us at the Scudders Beach Boat Ramp, Northport, (just 500yds north of Britannia YC) at 09:00 for taking lines, hauling her out and derigging; or b) 10:30 - meet us upon arrival w/boat-in-tow at my home in East Northport at 10:30. (If coming by LIRR, use Northport Station a mile north of me; I will have someone come and pick you up) 2) 12:00 - BBQ We hope to break for LUNCH ~ noon, photo ops, and ongoing refreshments, yet may keep going in shifts to keep the polish "wet". 3) 15:00 - Clean-Up and secure party (or to be continued . . . trick or treat!) Please give me a call for directions/address/arrangements or answers to any questions, 631 755-8839 days // 631 495-8654 cell. (P.S. - I've just received and hanked on my brand NEW SAILs, and may be VERY tempted to get underway "one last time" Friday late afternoon to "sea-trial" them, anchor overnight at a local gunkhole, and host a low-key, relaxing retreat onboard . . . hopefully grab a good enough cruising "fix" to keep us psyched through the winter until next season. We'll rendezvous w/the take-out crew at high tide at the dock Saturday morning. Very limited room . . . bare-bones, nothing fancy, just much needed chill "time-on-the-water".
