Details

City Island Yacht Club's Membership Committee is sponsoring a two hour seminar on how to read tides, currents and sail trim to go faster. The presentation is by Kerry Klinger, former J 80 National Champion and owner/sail maker at UK-Halsey's City Island Loft.

Kerry's seminars are always winners. He is able to help any sailor understand the conditions he is in and how to make the best of them. The seminar will provide information to the cruisers and racers--anyone who sails and wants to improve. There will be an extended Q&A following Kerry's presentation. His seminar last year on Sail Trim was rated Outstanding by the attendees.

This seminar on April 9th will start at 7:30. Prior to the seminar CIYC will offer a limited menu and bar service by our professionally trained Steward. The Club is at 63 Pilot St. on City Island. Please go to www.cityislandyc.org for directions. Please call the Club at 718 885 2487 to RSVP by April 3rd so the Steward can better prepare for the event.

"Nice, informative, technically up to date - and seasoned with a nice humour. Could have been a bot more about the real sail trim instead about the construction of high tech sails, but the overall impression was fantastic. Thank you for making this seminar possible!"

"I was very pleased with the lecture and impressed by Kerry's knowledge . I was also happy to see such a great turnout of Meetup members. Mike Quarlena expected 15-20 for dinner and over 50 dinners were served! Thanks to Kerry and Ernie for arranging this seminar."

"Great speaker, good content. I would have loved to have heard more about sails, sail-making and sail trim. Also, techniques for asymmetricals, etc."

  • Kirk
"I expected to hear that tide and wind and current can affect the boat...I was very happy to learn a LOT of new ideas, resources and info that can really help a racer or a cruiser! I had never realized the potential benefit of "research" prior to race or cruise in the way it was shared. I am anxious to apply what I have learned during this years racing seasons. "

  • Steve Cohen
"I picked up a few good ideas regarding using the internet sites for wind information. "
